New Beads due in tomorrow!

October 31st, 2011

We are getting excited here waiting for the delivery of our next shipment of lovely glass beads!

The beads are due in tomorrow, and we cannot wait to get the boxes off the pallet and have a good old rummage around  inside at all the new jewellery making goodies we ordered around 5 months ago! I ordered them but I cannot remember every design of  bead that  we went for. I know that there are a load of lovely lampwork beads with unusual designs and some cute little glass pip beads. We’ve got the traditional baroque type wedding cake beads too with their applied garland of golden glass strands and dots of colour. There should be some dichroic glass pendant beads in the delivery too.

Anyway some of the girls who work here are ready to pick out their favourites and take them home to their bead boards and craft studios. I’ll get them on the site as soon as I can. The great news is that they will be really good value!

Many of them should be available in wholesale beads packs in the next few weeks!

Happy Halloween fellow beaders!

Venetian Glass Beads

August 27th, 2009

Handmade beads from Venice don’t come cheap but you do get what you pay for.  the Venetian bead makers pick the most vibrant glass and use real silver and gold foils to wrap the cores in. Venetian-bead-foil-1-Large We are delighted to have our full range of Venetian glass beads back in stock even though it has taken a while for them to arrive, they are well worth the wait.

Most of the beads are made on Murano, the famous Island of glassmakers but some of ours are actually made in Venice itself in a tiny glass works by a quiet quayside. Their workshop is bursting with brightly coloured canes and shelves stuffed full of beads, moulds and tools.  The history of beadmaking in Venice dates from the time of Marco Polo when he returned from his journeys with  beads from Asia. Local artisians used their glass making skills to reproduce these precious stones for jewellery making and trade.
